Tibetan Singing Bowls Article

According to Tibetan oral tradition, existence of singing bowls dates back to the time of the historical Buddha Shakyamuni (560 – 480 B.C.). The tradition came from India to Tibet, along with the teachings of the Buddha, by the great tantric master Padmasambhava in the 8th century A.D.

Singing bowls produce sounds, which invoke a deep state of relaxation which naturally assists one in entering into meditation, the goal being enlightenment. They are a quintessential aid to meditation, and are found on private Buddhist altars, and in temples, monasteries and meditation halls throughout the world.

A metallurgical analysis, done by the British Museum in London, reveals that the instruments are made of a 12-metal alloy consisting of silver, nickel, copper, zinc, antimony, tin, lead, cobalt, bismuth, arsenic, cadmium and iron. Now a lost art, it seems that this quality of bowl cannot be reproduced today.

In addition to their traditional usage for meditation, Tibetan singing bowls are used for deep relaxation, stress reduction, holistic healing, Reiki, Chakra Balancing, and World music. Many people find that the rich blend of harmonic overtones which the bells produce have a direct effect upon their chakras.

Playing the bowls usually causes an immediate centring effect. The tones set up a “frequency following response” that creates balancing left/right brain synchronization. Meditating on the subtle sounds of the Tibetan singing bowl tunes one in to the universal sound within and without.

Previously used in Tibet for meditation and ceremonial purposes, Tibetan Singing Bowls are struck with a padded mallet or rubbed around the rim with a playing mallet to produce a fascinating blend of harmonic resonance’s and rich overtones.

Tibetan singing bowls or Himalayan “singing bowls” are dynamically resonant producing soothing overtones…called singing bowls because when rubbed in a circular movement along the outside lip with a striker, a clear and beautiful sound is released. The sound is definitely soothing. The sound frequency is definitely richer when the cushion is used with the bowls

Imagine using the singing bowl to free up the tensions of stressed children or for us busy adults. Each bowl is cast from a secret formula of metal alloys, and then hammered into shape. Exact dimensions and shape vary somewhat from bowl to bowl.

Playing Instructions and Tips:-

  • Technique 1.
      • Hold the singing bowl on the palm of one hand. For smaller bowls, seven inches and under, hold on your fingertips.
      • Grasp the rubbing stick about mid-length, with all the fingertips pointing downwards and touching the wood. Palm down.
      • Gently tap the rubbing stick against the side of the bowl to “warm-up” the bell.
      • Now gently tap the bowl once in a clock-wise direction from the further point from you. Then at the right side once, again at the closest point to you, then finally at the most left point of the bowl. You will make four taps.
    • Technique 2.
      • Following on from the first three points above…
      • Now, with an even pressure, rub the rubbing stick clockwise around the outside edge of the rim of the bowl. Use a full arm movement, just like stirring a big kettle of soup, and keep the mallet straight up and down! Again, it’s not a wrist movement, but a full-arm movement.
      • Remember to apply pressure– the mallet friction against the
outer rim produces vibrations which result in sound.

Experiment with your speed. Usually people go too fast! Let the sound build up slowly as the singing bowl picks up the vibration.

Breaking in Your Rubbing Stick

The rubbing stick that comes with your Tibetan singing bowl is handmade of Himalayan hardwood. When you play the bowl, using the stick-around-the-rim technique, the friction of the stick produces vibrations which result in the sound. In the beginning the stick is relatively smooth, but as you continue to use it, it will develop “micro-grooves”, shallow grooves which help to grab more of the playing edge of the bowl. Allow about five minutes for initial break-in of a new rubbing stick. As you use it more the micro-grooves become impressed in your rubbing stick and you will get better sound and easier playing from your bowl.

The Wah-Wah

Most all Tibetan singing bowls have natural wah-wahs which you can amplify and bend by using the wah-wah technique.

  • Get the bowl singing by using the mallet-around-the-rim technique described above. Pull the mallet away from the bowl and let the bowl continue to sing.
  • While still holding the bowl in your hand, raise the bowl up to your mouth so that the outside rim is just above the opening of your mouth and about an inch away.
  • Open and close your mouth while thinking of the sound wah-wah. You are not actually making any sound with your mouth, but simply changing the shape of the oral cavity so as to allow the sound of the singing bowl to bounce around inside of your mouth and then be reflected back. By changing the size of the oral cavity you are modulating the sound!

Experiment with the relative position of your mouth to the outside bowl rim. Also, if you turn the bowl, while experimenting with the wah-wah effect, you will find “hot spots” where the bowl is naturally louder.

Water Bowl Sounds

A special sound effect can be produced by adding a small amount of water to the bottom of the singing bowl. The sounds produced using this technique sound like dolphins singing!

  • The amount of water to use varies with the individual bowl. Start by pouring about 3/4″ of water into the bowl. Be careful NOT to get the outside rim of the bowl wet.
  • Now, play the bowl using the stick-around- the-rim technique. Bring up the sound by using a steady even pressure. Pull the rubbing stick away from the bowl rim and let the bowl continue to sing.
  • Still holding the bowl in your hand, tilt the bowl so that the water inside gently laps up toward the inside rim. Continue to gently swirl and tilt the bowl and the water.

Experiment with the amount of water used. Usually the best effect is produced with a minimum amount of water. Keep a towel handy for when spills may happen. This can be especially interesting if you add some fragrant flowers such as Gardenia, or frangipani to the water and allow the fragrance to “float” through the air. Remember not to keep the water in the bowls whilst not attending to it as it can become corrosive to the bowl.

However and above all, enjoy, respect and play your singing bowl with the love that you have from The Universe and it will reward you richly.

The Vision That Started it All

One sunny Saturday morning as I was sitting at the breakfast table
sipping my morning peppermint tea, and staring into space between
here and there, a vision came to me so bright and clear, I could not
ignore it. I saw my great-grandmother standing by her grave-site,
next to a beautiful big old Elm Tree. She was looking at me and
when we made eye contact, she turned to look down at her grave.
She looked so sad. Then came another vision superimposing upon
this one. It was of seven tarot cards and they were lined up above my
great-grandmother’s head. She looked up at them, herself.

They were all turned face down. As I looked at each one in turn, it
turned face up. I interpreted each one, in my mind, saying what the
card was. (Keep in mind that up until this point, I had not seen a
tarot deck in this life-time). As I interpreted each card, it turned face
down again. By the time I reached the seventh card, I “knew” I could
read the tarot cards. The vision of the cards disappeared from view
which left the vision of my great-grandmother. I knew I just had to
go and visit her grave. So I did and found the grave-site of my great grandfather
nearby, as well. When I returned home, it was as though
the knowledge of the tarot card reading had been passed on to me.
My great-grandmother’s spirit had come to me to tell me that she
used to read the playing cards when she was alive. I was only
vaguely aware of this, as in most family histories, the youngest
members are not always privy to such facts.

So now, having been “awoken” from my slumber lay in real life
to the wonderful gift of Tarot Reading way back twenty plus years
ago, I began teaching this art while trying to explain what the
different cards meant and how to best lay the spreads to people who
simply wanted to know what was going to happen next in their daily
lives. What they really wanted was a fix all that would tell them
everything would be fine.

So, in the last few years I have been busying myself with Tarot
Reading Workshops and teaching people the simple way to read the
Tarot Cards. Without mystery. Without judgement. Without
hassle. I resorted to the very old and ancient way I had been taught
many, many, lifetimes ago. I liken the times to those of the Ancient
Greeks and Romans when life was so much simpler and easier. Of
course, this could have even been in a different dimension of time
and space. For those answers you will have to await my book
“Thymeline – The Three Pillars” which is due out in late 2016.
In the mean time, I invite you to have your own Tarot Cards at the
ready, sit back, take a sip of your tea or coffee (each to your own)
and be ready to learn to take on this Workshop in Tarot Reading with
Sandy Cee and Connect through Spirit: Rider Waite Deck.
Bright Blessings

Ace – High or Low

Have you ever watched the flag bearers at the Olympic Games? Look at the individual carrying the flag. He or She is filled with a sense of pride and responsibility as the march continues on its way. They wend their way around the games, leading their home teams. He or she is at the front of the team. Saying “make way, this is us from…” what ever country they are all from.

The Ace may represent One, or represent the whole of the suit. Either way, it is at the front, leading the team of that suit on, around the games to participate in the game of life. The game of telling the future. The Ace is at the front, in full regalia of that suit. Look at the Ace of which ever suit you pick up. It is larger than all of the other minor arcana cards. It is saying “I am One of this suit”

The Ace is therefore of high importance in a tarot spread. It carries a great deal of weight, whether it is One, or the card above the King. In some ways, it is a wild card, as it reaches out and packs a proverbial punch in the tarot reading.

If there are many lower numbered cards around, then take it more as a number 1, meaning it is before the two of whatever suit is following it. If however, it falls around a significant number of court cards, then it can be taken as a high card – above that of the King of that suit.

There are a variety of situations the ace may be involved in. It may fall before one or some of the minor arcana and therefore it means a lesser value. It could fall after these same cards and, while still meaning a lesser value, it can also be significant enough to say THAT is what it is, rather than I think it is this…

The higher the numbered cards that fall before or after the ace, the more significant it will be in the reading.

The Five Clairs

So, what is this about Clair-?

Well, Clair is an interesting subject for there is much ado about “her”. She has many senses and they are all inter-related to the Spiritual Self that is within each and every one of us. We can leave “her” within us, never to see the light of day, or we can bring “her” out in one way or another, or even bring her out in all ways we can think of. Having Clair living, or existing within you can become a frightening concept; however she is really not dangerous at all. So now I have listed below the different Clairs that I know. If you know of one I have missed out on, please feel free to email me to let me know.

Clairvoyance

As the Dictionary quotes: It is “seeing what is not usually seen or the supposed ability to see things beyond the range of normal human vision”.

This is probably the best known of all the Clairs. It is “To See” – into the future (as in precognition) or past (as in retrocognition), into the spiritual realm, to see the spirits themselves. The word itself  from the French language and means Clear (Clair) Seeing (or to see from “Voir”). A Clair Voyant may have other talents such as to see within the human body, or to see into closed areas such as boxes or closets. Many forms of divination are connected to Clair Voyance such as Psychometry and Scrying. For a medium, he / she will be able to see as though they were right there, experiencing the event, or time itself, or else will be able to see in “third person” as though they were (or are) on the side-lines, witnessing the event itself. A person with this gift is often referred to as a “seer”.

Clairaudience

As the Dictionary quotes: “In the field of parapsychology, Clairaudience [from late 17th century French Clair (clear) & audience (hearing)] is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires information by paranormal auditory means”.

This is definitely the next best known of the Clairs and means “Clear Hearing”. Strangely enough it is probably the most common form of any of the Clairs that most people are familiar with. There are many people of all ages and walks of life who are familiar with “hearing voices” in their heads, or at the back of their minds. Whether it be nagging little ones telling them “not to do it” or “just go ahead, you’ll be OK!” or bigger, louder voices making a statement about someone they are looking at, at the moment. For a medium, he / she will be able to hear what is being said as though a Spirit is right beside them. Or else the words will come from within as though the Spirit is right inside them and in this case the medium will usually be saying the words ad verbatim, even without knowing what is being said at the time. There are times when we “hear” with our Spiritual ears, yet do not hear the actual word or verbalism which is being made, yet what we hear is softer and seemingly “inaudible”, or at such a pitch of tone that we are incapable of understanding it to be words, or even sounds. This is perhaps very much as an animal would “hear” an extremely high pitch sound and respond to it without thinking. When we are at a stage of simply responding, this may be called “automatic” writing / drawing / communication etc.

Clairsentience

As the Dictionary quotes: “In the field of parapsychology, clairsentience [From the French clair, “clear,” + sentience, “feeling,” ultimately derived from the Latin clarus, “clear,” + sentiens, derived from sentire, “to feel”] is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of feeling.”

This one is not as well known, though most people have it. It means Clear Sensing and is more familiarly talked about when people say “I feel something in the air” or “I get the feeling that it might rain” or even “I’ve got a hunch this one’s going to be a winner…” Call it a “hunch” or “gut instinct” or what ever else you can remember, it is all feeling and sensing. Doing some exercises in awareness san help to develop this “sense” so that you can ‘feel’ or ‘get the vibes’ from the energy you are ‘sensing’ and feeling around you. Psychometry is very much associated with this Clair as is photograph reading. Many “psychic” readers will use this sense in order to “read” the vibes off the person for whom they are doing a reading, whilst not even knowing what they are reading, it is more “sensing”.

Clairalience

As the Dictionary quotes: “In the field of parapsychology, Clairalience [presumably from late 17th century French Clair (clear) & Alience (smelling)] is a form of extra-sensory perception wherein a person acquires psychic knowledge primarily by means of smelling”.

How many times have you heard someone in a delirious state of mind say “I can smell fresh bread baking” or even when in a complete state of utter sanity…“I can smell the perfume of my grand mother she always used to wear”? Perhaps you too, have smelled something odd or unusual when you have entered a strange house or area you are not used to and have been told that someone passed away in that house not long ago. Or perhaps you have even smelt something akin to stale air that has been allowed to remain stagnant in a house which has not been purified or cleansed for some time. All of this is known as Clear Smelling. Presumably this is not quite as uncommon as you may have thought.

Clairambience

As the Dictionary Quotes: “In the field of parapsychology, Clairambience is defined as a form of extra-sensory perception that allegedly allows one to taste a substance without putting anything in one’s mouth. It is claimed that those who possess this ability are able to perceive the essence of a substance from the spiritual or ethereal realms through taste.”

This one of the Clairs means to have clear tasting. Whilst it happens rarely, it does so happen when a visitor arrives who may have had a penchant for instance for musk lollies, or peppermints, or rare T-bone steaks. Often a medium will be able to “taste” these same tastes and could even be so in synchronization with the visitor that he / she will seemingly “fill up” on the last meal upon which the visitor had.

Claircognizance

As the Dictionary Quotes: “In the field of parapsychology, Claircognizance is defined as a form of extra-sensory perception that allegedly allows one to acquire psychic knowledge itself without understanding how or why this knowledge comes to be”

It is perhaps one of the most common of all the Clairs in actual fact for many of us have said at one time – I don’t know how I know, I just know! This Clair is related to Clairsentience, although is much stronger than a mere hunch and more often than not is proven to be totally correct when the information is followed. I have always called these incidents in my life-time “my knowings”

Clair-comprehendré

This one is of my own and it means “clear – understanding” or “clear – realisations”. When I was younger I went through a Phase whereby I came to “realise” and understand more about The Universe as a whole without even thinking about The Universe. I called these incidents in my life-time “my realisations”. They often came without warning and usually would occur in a moment of complete unawareness to my surroundings as though I were in a trance, even though I was not “trance-like” and I would simply realise with much clarity why and how specific points about The Universe are the way that they are.

If you can come up with any other “Clairs” that you have experienced along the journey of your life, or know of any others which I have omitted, I welcome you to contact me with your own experience, definition, thoughts and the like. Just as we each have our physical senses, so too do we have our spiritual senses. We all possess the ability to use our spiritual senses as we do our physical, however some of us have strengths in these areas, whilst others have left them far behind. If anyone is interested in developing your strengths please email me for more details.

Mindfulness in Meditation

Take some quiet time for yourself. In the quietness you will begin to recognize yHorseshoe_Falls_Mt_Field_National_Parkourself again. We so easily lose ourselves in the daily shuffle of life. Mindfulness and awareness will allow you to participate in your life rather than only reacting to life. Through practicing mindfulness you can begin to enjoy the simple things in life that have been lost in the clutter. Meditation is the powerful antidote to many of the poisons in your life; it stills vast yearnings and inner-discontentments. Meditation provides a reprieve from the vicious swings of worry; a mind that continually wanders into darkness and grasps for unknowable futures. A moment of completeness; a moment of real — meditation does not reach — it only opens you to what is. As your hopes and desires disappear you emerge. Through meditation you begin to take form in your interior as a beautiful being; free from self-deception and fear, you will start to see and believe in your own beauty. As you submerge into your own realm of nothingness you feel you are being pulled into some great oneness; a mending of the fractures in your own consciousness. Nothing to conquer or control; no-one to quarrel with — the still mind is peaceful, and the still mind is free. Your quiet moments prepare you for the harsh scuffles and abrasions of life. Take some quiet time for yourself to center and to transcend the madness. Quietness is the most unpretentious preparation for a life of peaceful significance.

Chakra Workshop

THE CHAKRAS

The word ‘chakra’ is derived from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘wheel’. If we were able to see chakras (as many seers and psychics, in fact, do) we would observe a wheel of energy continuously revolving or rotating.

And each chakra rotates at a different speed.

One of the reasons that many people fall ill is because their chakras become out of alignment, they are ‘imbalanced’ or there are blockages, which restrict the free, flow of the body’s energy.

There are seven major chakras (and dozens of minor ones). For simplicity I intend to concentrate upon these seven chakras. They are as follows: –

  • First Chakra                 – base of the spine
  • Second Chakra             – sacral
  • Third Chakra                – solar plexus
  • Fourth Chakra             – heart
  • Fifth Chakra                 – throat
  • Sixth Chakra                – third eye (brow)
  • Seventh Chakra           – crown

These chakras all play an extremely active role in all our crystal healing treatments.

As already mentioned any ‘imbalances’ that exist within any chakra may have profound effects upon either our physical or physiological bodies. We are able to use our quartz crystals to re-balance all our chakric centres and once the chakra has been properly balanced then our body will gradually return to normality.

First Chakra – The first chakra is located at the bottom of the spine. This is where the kundalini is situated. This chakra is associated with the Colour red. It is a very important centre as it has so much effect upon the rest of the body. I find personally that I am able to release a great deal of the physical stress and tension of the nervous system by working on the base chakra with my quartz crystals.

Second Chakra – The second chakra is located within an area bounded by the spleen and sexual centre. This chakra is associated with the Colour orange. Usually people suffering   from sexual blockages need healing here.

Third Chakra – The third chakra is the solar plexus and is located just below the navel. This chakra is associated with the Colour yellow. There is often a great amount of physical energy and power within this chakra or emanating from it. This chakra is also the psychic store – house of mystical energy and is the energy centre used by materialisation mediums for producing ectoplasm and other psychic manifestations.

Fourth Chakra – The fourth chakra is the heart centre. It is located in an area in the centre of the chest, between the two nipples. The colours associated with this chakra are green and pink. I use the heart chakra to help people suffering from emotional traumas and problems in their relationships. I find that by using a piece of rose quartz I am able to help release their inner emotional tension and trauma.

Fifth Chakra – The fifth chakra is the throat centre. It is located in an area, which corresponds to the centre of the throat. The colours associated with this chakra are either blue or turquoise when people suffer from headaches (perhaps migraine) and tension within the neck and shoulder muscles I find that often the basic cause is that the throat chakra has become blocked.

Sixth Chakra – The sixth chakra is the third eye. This chakra is located between the two brows on the forehead. The Colour most associated with this chakra is purple. When helping people to develop their own spiritual intuition I find that amethyst, sodalite, lapis lazuli or Sugilite are ideal stones with which to work.

Seventh Chakra – The seventh chakra is the crown centre. This chakra is located on the top of the head. The Colour associated with this chakra is white. During any crystal healing session this chakra needs to be open. It is the chakra through which you obtain the highest understanding and the highest knowledge.

To balance the chakras I use the following technique. First I have my patient lying down on their back. I then place two quartz crystals on the third eye chakra, points facing downwards. Two quartz crystals I put on the palm, points upwards; two quartz crystals on the breast area, points upwards; and two quartz crystals placed on the top of the thighs, point upwards. If the patient lies quietly on his or her back for about 15 minutes, the chakras will quickly re-align themselves without much channelling needing to be done.

There are various layouts that can be used for each chakra also, when using crystals as a method of healing. I have outlined these below and the way in which each crystal should be pointing. If your patient needs healing in any of the chakras, these layouts are suggested.

Base Chakra

Place four clear quartz crystals in alignment so that they form an outline of a square. Each crystal should be placed pointing outwardly from each corner. Then place four dark tourmaline crystals in between each of the quartz crystals so that they are pointing outward and are shown as North, South, and East & West. In the middle, place a red stone. This layout can be used both on and off the body. It can be placed to cover the whole area of the hips and base of spine. Or they can be place in between the legs close to the base of the spine. This layout is designed to help release the stress and encourage healing. It can support and enhance the natural functioning of this centre.

Sacral Charka

Here are two layouts which can be used with each other to release stress, blocks and trauma as well as detoxify the whole system. This layout will stimulate this chakra and can be placed on the lower abdomen area. The first is a downward pointing triangle made up of three clear stones such as quartz, or rutilated quartz. Below this triangle are another three stones which form a downward pointing arc, slightly wider than the triangle. In this one, you may choose three stones of moonstone, rose quartz, lapis lazuli, aquamarine or amethyst.

Solar Plexus

This one will enhance energy flow throughout your body to enable your other chakras to be free-flowing. You may arrange the following stones on the upper abdomen between the lower edge of the ribcage near the diaphragm and the navel. Make an upward-pointing triangle of three citrine crystals (or gems) with points facing outward. In the centre of this triangle place one of the following: Tiger Eye; Ruby; Garnet; Jasper or Iron Pyrite. The stone you place here will determine the quality of energy being balanced. For instance, Garnet and Ruby will energise while Jasper and Pyrite will ground and aid the digestion. Tiger Eye will ground and encourage practical social skills. Surrounding these four stones, make another triangle, with three garnets pointing downwards.

Throat Chakra

The throat chakra is connected to the mind therefore it is important in all aspects of education, learning, understanding and knowledge. This one is to rebalance the throat chakra near the sternum. Close beneath this near the thymus gland, put a turquoise gem. Below this, on the breastbone, set a downward pointing clear quartz crystal. Finally on each side of the uppermost blue stone, place a crystal with double terminations of points at each end. (These can be any sort of stone as long as they are both the same type of stone)

Brow Chakra

This chakra is very sensitive and you must place stones with caution so as not to block the Third Eye. Place your layout for the Brow Chakra accordingly. In the centre of the forehead, place either a Herkimer Diamond or a Lapis Lazuli. On each side of it, set a small fluorite crystal of any colour. These should be positioned approximately at the centre of the eyebrows. Another fluorite goes right above the first central stone. An optional blue or violet fluorite can be added near the top of the head by the crown.

The Crown Chakra

For this chakra, I like to use quartz crystals myself. I use one centrally at the top of the crown, then one on each side of this one, all pointing upward and outward away from the crown. This directs the excess energy away from the crown, and thus away from the person. It is ideal to rid oneself of extra – static electricity as the clear quartz will neutralize and thus balance the crown chakra.

After you have completed each of these steps in clearing the chakras and find that your patient has well balance chakras, you may wish to further enhance the session by first using a quartz wand side on so as to “pick up” any excess energy – good, bad or indifferent that is unbalanced. A quick “wipe-over” with a rose quartz or aventurine wand will also give the finishing touches whilst clearing the person’s aura also.

For those of you are attuned to Reiki/Seichim energies you can now use your special healing powers to further the healing experience.

Good luck and Bright Blessings

House Cleansing – how important is it really?

Today I travelled to a client’s home to do some house cleansing. I realised on the way that few people understand the importance of this task. Just as a house can become dusty from wind blowing into the house through open windows, vents etc…so it can be dusty from spirits or entities floating in from the outside through a window, or vent, or even through the front door. While most spiritual visits can be quite calm, and uneventful, some, as in this client’s spiritual visit, can be quite upsetting as well as disrupting to the entire family unit, including pets.

The usual method is to use White Sage as a smudge to cleanse the entire house from top to bottom.

How to cleanse any home or workspace removing negative entities and energies

Regarding the smudge ceremony, remember that no matter the details of your actions, God knows what you are trying to do, and in the end you can’t do it wrong, there is no wrong, God and the Master Spirit guides in the world unseen, will understand your actions and bless your efforts.

Well first of all, I use sage or sage with sweet grass. I pick a time when I’m not likely to be interrupted, and also pick some appropriate music to play. Not important if it’s not possible.
Then I say a prayer asking God and my spirit guides to be with me and guide my actions. Personally I use the “Light Invocation” by Dael Walker and repeat it three times as he suggested.

“I invoke the light of the God within I am a clear and perfect channel Light is my guide”

The smudge stick is sometimes hard to keep smouldering so when you first light it, blow out the flame after it gets going and then blow into the smouldering embers to really let it take hold or else it might burn out. If it does burn out, just re-light it again and keep going.

After I get the stick smouldering, I ask the smoke be blessed and that it will trap any and all negative entities and energies. The first thing I smudge is myself starting with the bottoms of my feet and then working the smoke up around my body and around my head and crown chakra.

After that is done I start at a doorway and direct the smoke completely around the doorframe, you will repeat this in every room starting at the entry doorway to each room and the front and back or side doors to the apartment or house.

After the doorways just go around the room to the four corners and then down the middle with a circular motion.

Don’t forget to open closet doors and drawers to chests and cabinets also before you begin. The mental image is as if you were about to fumigate the property for bugs, the idea is to let the smudge smoke get into and around everything within the home or office. Instead of getting rid of bugs, you are getting rid of negative entities and energies.

When you have completed every room, and then say another prayer, thanking God and your spirit guides for help and blessings asking that all the smoke carry away all negative entities and energies out away from your home or office.

Open as many windows and doors as is practical to allow the smoke to be purged from the interior and fresh air and chi to flow back into your living or work space. The idea is the smoke traps the unwanted stuff and then you let it out through the windows and open doors.

I always burn some good smelling incense at the beginning of the ceremony to help cover the pot-like smelling sage.

If possible I also light a few candles and create a makeshift alter with the candles and a few crystals of what ever you might have before I begin, to help act as centre place for my prayers and smudge lighting.

To help direct the smoke into drawers and closets, you can either use a feather if you have one or just use your hand in a fanning motion.

One other practical matter, sometimes smouldering pieces of ash from the sage or string the binds the sage will tend to drop to the floor so to prevent burn spots on your floor, it might be best to try and use a paper plate or something to catch the ash during the smudging.

Another alternative to a smudge “stick” bundle would be to burn loose sage in a dish or bowl, (try a metal or shell bowl / dish, which would prevent the smouldering ash problem.

This ceremony does tend to drain the person doing it, so allow so rest time for afterward. You may notice the difference of energy right away or especially the next day, as will visitors to your home or work space.

One last item, should you have any crystals or rocks in your space, you may want to raise their vibration after the smudging by ringing a bell, or ringing a brass bowl near where they sit. Finally put out the smudge and after closing the windows and doors sit down and relax for a while and begin to enjoy your cleansed environment.

You might want to redo the smudge ceremony at least every 6 months, or more often, if you feel the need. You might want to try and time the smudging to a “new moon” or at the change of seasons.

Remember God and your spirit guides understand what you are trying to do, so THERE IS NO WRONG WAY to do it. You may want to include some of your favourite readings, or do this with a loved one. Basically that’s it, good luck and be well.

Good luck and Bright Blessings

Cooling down Meditation

Are you feeling a tad hot this summer in the southern hemisphere? In Oz, we are experiencing frightening bush fires throughout most of our states, all thanks to the wonderful floods we had in the previous 2 years that brought about abundant undergrowth. So now it is time to chill out, cool down, and get on with another day and somehow try to cope with the heat.

If you are busy, these meditations may be just right for you. When you become more adept at visualising and using your senses, you will find it easy to just think – cool and be cool.

For now, sit down, allow yourself at least five minutes of undisturbed time. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. In through your nose and out through your mouth – allow your abdomen to expand as you breathe in and then deflate when you breathe out. Take another deep breath in, then hold to the count of 5 and release slowly out.

Now that you are relaxed, visualise yourself in a quiet, darkened space. Then see yourself walking toward a green forest. Walk slowly, and feel the coolness of the forest as you enter it. Look around you and see the moist mosses on the trees. As you walk deeper into the rain forest, you will begin to feel the spray of the water fall you can hear in the distance. Continue walking through, feeling cooler as you walk closer to the water fall. Finally you reach this body of water gushing down with a roar. Listen to the sound of this roar and know it as your waterfall.

Follow the gushing water and see that it is landing in a cool serene pond of clear water. When you look through you can see how deep it is and how clear it is of debris, for the forest has been looking after it for millenia. Edge a bit closer to the pool, and feel yourself feeling nice and cool. Now, see yourself walking right up to the edge of the pool and then dive into the clear, cool fresh spring water. Swim up toward the gushing water fall and feel the force of that water as it crashes around you. You are always safe in your own pool. In this pool. Swim here for a little while and feel yourself becoming refreshed and revitalised by the coolness of the water, and the spray of the mountain mist.

When you are feeling cooler, you can walk out of the pool, and find a sunny spot to allow the filtered sunshine to dry you. Take a deep breath in and out once more and open your eyes. You should begin to feel much cooler now.

Meditation – The Art of a Quiet Mind

wax art 8

Meditation is not difficult. It is not hard work. You do not need to sit cross legged on the floor, or under the full moon and chant anything.

Meditation is about quieting your mind, relaxing it and learning to bring a smile to your face. Taking you from a negative place where you may be right now – to a happier place that brings peace and tranquillity to your mind, body and soul.

That being said, here is an example of a very simple meditation that you may feel beneficial.

We can teach you different methods of meditation that will help you to find that happy and peaceful tranquillity that you need to quiet your mind. It is very easy and once you have mastered these techniques, you will be able to work on your own at a moment’s notice anywhere, any time.

Our meditation workshops are over 5 weeks and are one session each week. At the end of the five week workshop you will be given a manual as a record of your five weeks, and personal quartz crystal for you to keep.
